Συνέντευξη με την Μαρία Κέλλη, Ταϊλάνδη

Η Μαρία Κέλλη ζει, σπουδάζει και εργάζεται στην Ταϊλάνδη, στην περιοχή της Νακόν Πατόμ (επαρχία της Ταϊλάνδης), περίπου 56 χιλιόμετρα δυτικά της Μπανγκόκ. Μας έγραψε πάρα πολλά τα οποία έχουν ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον και αξίζει κάποιος να τα διαβάσει.

• Πως βρέθηκες στην Ταϊλάνδη και με τι ασχολείσαι ;

‘Ηρθα στη Ταϊλάνδη για να κάνω διδακτορικό στο πανεπιστήμιο Mahidol. Αποφάσισα να έρθω να κάνω διδακτορικό εδώ γιατί ο τομέας που με ενδιαφέρει είναι οι πνευματικές θεραπείες και ήθελα να δω και την πλευρά της Ασίας σε αυτό το θέμα.

Η ιστορία το πως ήρθα ήταν ενδιαφέρουσα. Κάποιος όταν είπε μου είπε ότι υπάρχει ένα πολύ καλό πανεπιστήμιο εδώ και πήγα στο internet να δω και είδα ότι ήταν 8 Αυγούστου η ημέρα υποβολής της αίτησής. Θυμάμαι μάλιστα ότι ήταν 6 Αυγούστου τότε και μέσα σε 2 μέρες αποφάσισα να κάνω μια προσπάθεια και που ξέρεις…. Ήταν ένας αγώνας δρόμου να τα ετοιμάσω αλλά δόξα το Θεό βρήκα ότι χρειαζόταν να υποβαλλω και τα έστειλα. Βέβαια τους είπα ότι θα έπρεπε να έρθω από το δεύτερο εξάμηνο γιατί δεν προλάβαινα αλλιώς να ετοιμαστώ. Με πήραν τηλέφωνο και έκανα και προφορικά μια εισαγωγή και συμφωνήσαμε να έρθω. Μερικές μέρες αργότερα με πήραν τηλέφωνο να μου πουν ότι δεν μπορούσαν να αρχίσω στη μέση της χρονιάς οπότε ή θα ερχόμουνα αμέσως ή θα περίμενα ένα χρόνο.

Είχα πολλούς λόγους να μην πάω αμέσως. Πριν έρθω εδώ έκανα διδακτορικό στην Ελλάδα σε τεχνικό τομέα. Απο τη μια πλευρά έλεγα να το τελειώσω από την άλλη είχα κουραστεί με όλες τις αλλαγές και τις δυσκολίες στα Ελληνικά πανεπιστήμια. Επίσης με όλη μου τη τρέλα για τα ταξίδια δεν είχα καν έρθει για ταξίδι στην Ταϊλάνδη οπότε να έρθω για μόνιμα ήταν ένα μεγάλο ρίσκο. Αλλά τώρα 5 χρόνια αργότερα χαίρομαι που ήρθα.

• Πες μας λίγα λόγια για τις επαγγελματικές σου δραστηριότητες στην Ταϊλάνδη ;

Ασχολουμε με δύο πραγματα παραλληλα. Το πρώτο είναι η δουλειά μου σαν φοιτήτρια διδακτορικού. Ο τομέας μου είναι οι πνευματικές θεραπείες και ο μυστικισμός με έμφαση στις σπουδές για τη θέση των γυναικών. Η έρευνά μου επικεντρώνεται στο Μπαλί της Ινδονησίας, που μου επιτρέπει να ταξιδεύω σε αυτό το παραδεισένιο μέρος του κόσμου για δουλειά. Είναι απολαυστικό. Είμαι επίσης σε θέση να μαθαίνω περισσότερα για τον κόσμο της Ασίας ο οποίος είναι πολύ διαφορετικός από αυτό που βλέπουμε, καταλαβαίνουμε και βιώνουμε στην Ευρώπη και τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, έτσι χαίρομαι που μπορώ να διερευνήσω αυτόν τον εκπληκτικό κόσμο ως μέρος των κοινωνικών μου σπουδών για το διδακτορικό μου.

Παράλληλα, έχω έναν τρόπο ζωής στον ψηφιακό κόσμο. Δουλεύω και διδάσκω ηλεκτρονικά μέσω internet με την επιχείρησή μου να αναπτύσσεται (έχω 15 ανθρώπους από όλο τον κόσμο που εργάζονται για μένα). Έχω ανθρώπους στην Ασία, Ευρώπη και Αμερική, πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι ανά πάσα στιγμή υπάρχει κάποιος 24 ώρες το 24ωρο ο οποίος είναι διαθέσιμος για να υποστηρίξει τους πελάτες μου. Είναι ένα μαγικό lifestyle το να συνδυάζεις την εργασία με τα ταξίδια.

 Σήμερα είμαι μια αναγνωρισμένη ομιλήτρια και θεραπεύτρια που ταξιδεύει και διδάσκει σε όλο τον κόσμο, μια επιτυχημένη συγγραφέας και ομιλήτρια στην τηλεόραση, το ραδιόφωνο και τα podcasts, και έχω μια επιτυχημένη και προσοδοφόρα σταδιοδρομία ως intuitive. Είμαι φοιτήτρια διδακτορικού στο μυστικισμό και την πνευματική θεραπεία και κατέχω επίσης 3 βαθμούς από το MIT και το Sloan School of Management, αισθάνομαι αφθονία στη ζωή μου, αισθάνομαι τυχερή, ευγνώμων και ευλογημένη.

Δεν ήταν πάντα τα πράγματα έτσι για εμένα. Η ζωή μου ήρθε σε αυτή τη πορεία όταν πριν από 15 χρόνια είχα μια επιθετική μορφή σκλήρυνσης κατά πλάκας, που σε χρόνο ρεκόρ με άφησε σε αναπηρικό καροτσάκι με μεγάλο πόνο και σοβαρά προβλήματα. Έπαιρνα 40 χάπια τη μέρα συμπεριλαμβανομένων των στεροειδών και μια ημερήσια ένεση, ήμουν σε αναπηρικό καροτσάκι, είχα σοβαρή κόπωση και αδυναμία και το βάρος μου είχε διογκωθεί στα 150 κιλά.

Υπέφερα και από σοβαρή κατάθλιψη με αυτοκτονικές τάσεις. Εκτός από αυτό, ο αρραβωνιαστικός μου με άφησε. Είχα υποστήριξη μόνο από τα προγράμματα αναπηρίας. Ένιωθα θυμωμένη και χαμένη, είχα χάσει πάσα ελπίδας (αφού οι γιατροί μου δεν μπορούσαν να μου προσφέρουν καμία θεραπεία) και χρειαζόμουν πραγματικά ένα θαύμα. ‘Ετσι και έγινε – ήταν το πρώτο μου ιατρικό θαύμα. Μέσα σε 18 μήνες ήμουν πάλι στα πόδια μου, και σε 1-2 χρόνια δεν χρειαζόμουν πια φάρμακα.

Τα επόμενα χρόνια ήταν τα χρόνια που βρήκα τη μέθοδο για θαύματα γιατί δυστυχώς είχα συνέχεια ατυχήματα και η ζωή μου ήταν συνέχεια με προβλήματα και δυσκολίες. Συνειδητοποίησα ότι μπορούσα ενεργά να φέρνω θαύματα στη ζωή μου, πρώτα θαύματα υγείας και μετά άλλα διάφορα. Σιγά σιγά άρχισα να δοκιμάζω τη μέθοδο με γνωστούς και φίλους. Στην αρχή το ονόμασα συνταγές θαυμάτων και τροποποιούσα και καλυτέρευα τις μεθόδους με κάθε καινούργια περίπτωση που αντιμετώπιζα. Οι συνταγές αυτές είναι η προσωπική μου εμπειρία πρώτα και μετά η εμπειρία των άλλων.

Το 2012 είχα το τελευταίο μου σοβαρό ατύχημα σε μια οικοδομή – είχα μια εμπειρία που σταμάτησα να αναπνέω και πέρασα στην άλλη μεριά. Εκεί “εζησα” τις απαντήσεις που έψαχνα. Έχω βαθιά συμπόνια για όσους εξακολουθούν να υποφέρουν, επειδή αυτό μου συνέβη πριν μερικά χρόνια. Καταλαβαίνω τον πόνο επειδή πέρασα ένα μεγάλο μέρος της ζωής μου σε βαθύ πόνο: σωματικό και πνευματικό. Κατανοώ την κακομεταχείριση και τη νοοτροπία των θυμάτων, διότι έχουν κακοποιηθεί με κάθε δυνατό τρόπο: σωματικό, συναισθηματικό, ψυχικό και σεξουαλικά.

Μακάρι πριν 20 χρόνια να είχα συναντήσει κάποιον σαν και εμένα να μου εξηγήσει πώς να αποφύγω τα βάσανα που τράβηξα. Θα ήθελα τώρα να είμαι αυτός ο άνθρωπος για όσους εξακολουθούν να υποφέρουν.

Αυτός είναι ο λόγος για τον οποίο κάνω ότι κάνω: Επειδή πιστεύω ότι είναι ο σκοπός της ζωής μου και η αποστολή μου είναι να βοηθήσω εκείνους που έχασαν κάθε ελπίδα και να πιστεύουν ξανά ότι υπάρχει ελπίδα, ώστε να μπορέσουν να ξαναλάμψουν και να βιώσουν μια θαυματουργή ανάκαμψη. • Πες μας λίγα λόγια για την Ταϊλάνδη, για την Νακόν Πατόμ που μένεις, για τους ανθρώπους εδώ ;

Όταν ήρθα στη Ταϊλάνδη όλα ήταν διαφορετικά. Μου πήρε 1-2 χρόνια να φτάσω στο σημείο να μπορώ να ξέρω που να βρω αυτά που χρειάζεται. Το πιο δύσκολο ήταν το φαγητό ίσως για μένα. Στην αρχή δεν μπορούσα να αναγνωρίσω τίποτα που να μου φαίνεται γνωστό. Άρχισα να παίζω ένα παιχνίδι που το λέω Ταϊλανδέζικη ρουλέτα.

Βασικά ότι και να έβρισκα το αγόραζα και το δοκίμαζα τουλάχιστον μια φορά. Καταρχήν ζω ακόμη οπότε δεν ήταν και τόσο τραγικό. Επίσης έχω ανακαλύψει φρούτα και λαχανικά που μερικές φορές μου παίρνει κάνα μισάωρο να βρω πως τα λένε καν στο διαδίκτυο. Μερικά ξέρω ότι δεν μου αρέσουν όπως π χ το μήλο των Ελεφάντων… ένα φρούτο σε μέγεθος γκρέιπφρουτ, καφέ και σκληρό σαν καρύδα και μέσα είναι σαν σάπιο μήλο με ίνες… Αλλά ανακάλυψα και μερικά που μου αρέσουν πολύ, όπως το ντούριαν (Durian), ένα φρούτο που ή το ερωτεύεσαι ή δεν θέλεις να το πλησιάσεις… εγώ το ερωτεύτηκα και πολλές φορές το τρώω σαν γεύμα είναι τόσο πλούσιο… ή ένα άλλο που το λένε φρούτο αυγού, μοιάζει λίγο με μάνγκο έξω, και μέσα όταν είναι ώριμο μοιάζει σαν κρόκος αυγού, ένα βαθύ κίτρινο, πολύ αρωματικό και γλυκό φρούτο. Ο κόσμος εδώ είναι πραγματικά καλός.

Οι Ταϊλανδεζοι είναι ένα ήρεμος λαός που πάντα με βλέπουν με αγάπη και σεβασμό. Σαν φοιτήτρια διδακτορικού με θεωρούν πλέον σεβάσμιο πρόσωπο και μου δείχνουν ένα σεβασμό που δεν έχω ξαναδεί σε πανεπιστήμιο. Μένω μέσα σε διαμέρισμα στο πανεπιστήμιο. Το Πανεπιστήμιο είναι βασιλικό που θα πει ότι όλα είναι προσεγμένα στην τρίχα. Ένας μικρός στρατός εργατών το καθαρίζουν, το φρουρούν, το περιποιούνται το περιβάλλον εδώ. Είναι σαν να ζω σε ένα βασιλικό πάρκο. Το πρωί περπατάω στο πανεπιστήμιο και είναι χαρά Θεού η όλη φύση εδώ. Βλέπω γύρω μου πουλιά και ζώα εξωτικά. Μάλιστα είναι γεμάτο από κάτι σαύρες λεγόμενες Monitor lizard και είναι η χαρά μου να τις κυνηγάω. Από το κεφάλι στην ουρά φτάνουν 5-7 μέτρα αλλά οι περισσότερες είναι πιο μικρές τα μωράκια τους ίσως να φτάνουν το 70 εκατοστά. Τα πρωινά μπορεί να δω 3-10 αναλόγως τη μέρα και το κομμάτι του πανεπιστημίου που είμαι.

Μου αρέσει να κάνω κολύμβηση. Εδώ δεν έχουν μία, αλλά 4 πισίνες (2 Ολυμπιακές) οπότε είναι μια ακόμη ευχαρίστηση να πηγαίνω για μπάνιο στις πολύ ζεστές μέρες. Σε γενικές γραμμές είμαι πολύ χαρούμενη που διάλεξα το πανεπιστήμιο Mahidol. Είναι το 1ο ή 2ο στη Ταϊλάνδη αναλόγως τη χρονιά και στα καλύτερα της Ασίας. Κυρίως η ζωή εδώ είναι εύκολη και νιώθω ότι ζω στο παράδεισο. Για τα προηγούμενα διπλώματα μου ήμουνα στο ΜΙΤ της Βοστόνης, και παρότι είναι ίσως το καλύτερο πανεπιστήμιο στο κόσμο είναι κρύο και γκρίζο. Έχω τελειώσει 3 διπλώματα εκεί (μηχανολόγος, ανάπτυξη προϊόντων και business – Sloan School of Management). Είχα πει ότι αν ποτέ ξαναπάω σε πανεπιστήμιο θέλω να είμαι σε ένα παράδεισο και το βρήκα εδώ αυτό.

• Τι σου λείπει από την Ελλάδα ;

Αυτή η ερώτηση είναι πάντα δύσκολη γιατί είναι τόσο διαφορετικά τα πράγματα. Η μητέρα μου είναι Ελλάδα και τη βλέπω τα καλοκαίρια, μάλιστα έρχεται και ζει μαζί μου μερικούς μήνες το χρόνο και έτσι την προσέχω και με προσέχει. Είναι δύσκολο να απαντήσω γιατί όλα εδώ είναι διαφορετικά, και εξίσου όμορφα. Ευτυχώς τα αγγλικά μου είναι σε επίπεδο ακόμη καλύτερο και από τα Ελληνικά μου οπότε μπορώ να βρίσκω άκρη.

Βέβαια δεν μιλάω τη γλώσσα. Προσπάθησα αλλά δεν τα κατάφερα να μάθω γιατί έχουν φωνητική γλώσσα που είναι πολύ δύσκολη. Ίσως αυτό. Μου λείπει να με καταλαβαίνουν και να τους καταλαβαίνω και εγώ να καταλαβαίνω τι μου λένε, και ποιοι είναι οι Ταϊλανδεζοι. Οι φίλοι μου είναι μόνο αυτοί που μιλάνε Αγγλικά αλλά πολύ τους συμπαθώ τους Ταϊλανδεζους/ες και θα ήθελα να μπορώ να τους γνωρίσω καλύτερα.

Maria Kellis is a miracle catalyst, a highly gifted energy worker, entrepreneur, coach, speaker, and teacher with an inspirational story of going through a miraculous life transformation. Even though she come from a world of science and engineering (she hold 3 MIT degrees) now she works full time bringing the world of the mind to the world of the heart and spirit. • What made you decide to come to Thailand ?

I came to Thailand to study at the phD program of Mahidol University in spiritual healing. I decided to work on this phD because I myself am working on spiritual healing and I wanted to explore the Asian perspective on energy healing.

The story of how I ended up in Thailand is a little adventure in trust and guidance. I was told that there is a great university in Asia, Mahidol University in Thailand. It was the 6th of August and the deadline for submitting my application was the 8th. It was an intense few days to get my application together and I did manage to apply. Given the rush I did tell them I was going to start in January and we agreed on that.

A few days later they called me to say that I had to either start immediately or wait one year to start. I had many reasons not to start immediately. I was at the time working on another phD in Greece in a technical field (wastewater recycling). One side of me wanted to finish what I had started, another was tired of the challenges I was facing with the libraries closing and the universities shifting.

More to the point I it was a bit crazy to just drop everything and move to a country I had not even visited before. It was a great risk that ultimately I am glad I took.

• Tell us a bit more about your company and your studies in Thailand. What motivates you to do the work you do?

I have two main tracks of what I do in Thailand. The first one is my work as a phD student at Mahidol University in Thailand. I am studying mysticism and spiritual healing with a spin on women studies. I am in fact doing my fieldwork in Bali, Indonesia, that allows me to travel to this paradise part of the world for “business”. It is quite enjoyable. I am also able to learn a lot about things. The world of Asia is vastly different from what we see, understand, and experience in Europe and the United States so I am happy to be able to explore this amazing world as part of my social studies for my phD.

In parallel I have a digital nomad’s lifestyle. I work and teach online. My company is growing (I have 15 people from around the world working for me) all virtually. It is a very cool lifestyle to be able to travel while work is being done.

Even though today I am an acclaimed speaker and healer travelling around the world, living between Thailand, Indonesia, Greece, Cyprus and the US, even though I am a bestselling author and a sought after speaker appearing on TV, radio and podcasts, even though I have a successful and lucrative career as an intuitive, even though I am a phD student in mysticism and spiritual healing and I also hold 3 degrees from MIT and the Sloan School of Management, and even though I experience abundance in my life, and I am feeling lucky, grateful and blessed, even though I am feeling that I am living on purpose and that my life is the absolute best I could have ever imagined, my life was not always this way.

Just 15 years ago I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of MS that in record time left me in a wheelchair in excruciating pain and unable to even control my bodily functions. I was taking a medical cocktail of around 40 pills per day including steroids and a daily injection, I was in a wheelchair, I had severe fatigue and weakness, and my weight had ballooned to over 300lbs. I was diagnosed with depression that almost lead me to suicide. On top of that my fiance had left me.

I ended up on welfare, even qualifying for food stamps. I was feeling angry and lost, I had lost all sense of hope (since my doctors could not offer me any cure) and I really needed a Miracle. This is exactly what I got: my first healing miracle. In about 18 months I was back on my feet again and in another year or two I did not need any pills.

I spent the following years realizing exactly what a miracle is and I had the chance to practice it over and over again as I somehow kept getting into accidents and having my life fall apart over and over again. Little by little I realised how to create repeatable miracles in any area of life and healing miracles in particular. I started to pro-actively test the process on myself and then on my friends and family.

Soon I realised that there is a method and a process and I started creating what I call I created “recipes for miracles” refining them for every person and for every problem that I encountered. These recipes are simply a result of my experience on myself and on others, a practical guide that I follow in helping others.

It was finally in 2012 that I had my last major accident and that time I had an NDE – I feel in a construction shaft, breaking my back, hand and part of my face and as I stopped breathing I crossed over. It was on the other side that I realised what karma means and I understood the key to healing it.

I have deep compassion for those of us that are still suffering because that used to be me just a few years ago. I understand pain because I spend a large part of my life in pain: physical, mental and spiritual. I understand abuse and the victim mentality because I have been abused in every possible way: physical, emotional, mental and sexual abuse. I used to wish that 20 years ago I had met someone who would tell me how to avoid the deep suffering I had to go through in order to learn what I know now. I wish to now be that person for those who still suffer.

This is why I do what I do: because I believe that suffering and pain are simply not necessary. I believe it is my life’s purpose, and my mission in life, to help those that have lost all hope to not only trust and believe again so they can shine again and experience a miraculous recovery, more than that I help them make miracles their way of life. • Tell us about adjusting to Thailand, the people, the culture, etc.

When I came to Thailand things were truly different from what I had experienced before. It took me 1-2 years to arrive at this point of discovering what I needed to have a regular life experience. Food was one of the most difficult things to adjust to for me. In the beginning I could not recognize much because everything was so new and exotic.

I started to play a game called “Thai roulette”, inspired by Russian roulette with a twist over food. I would buy anything I found at least once knowing that some things would potentially even get me sick – yet some things would potentially be amazing. …Well, it turns out I am still alive, i got sick very few times, and now I have discovered some foods that are absolutely amazing for me.

I discovered fruits and vegetables that are so obscure it would take me a long time to even find their name online, let alone discover how they are prepared or eaten, and their properties. I know there are some things I absolutely do not like – for example a fruit called Elephant apple, a fruit the size of a grapefruit, hard outside like a coconut and inside like a very fibrous rotten apple. Yet I also discovered some things that I am passionate about.

Durian for example is a fruit that you either fall in love with or you hate with passion. I fell in love with durian and I even sometimes eat it as a meal replacement since it is very rich. I also discovered another fruit called egg fruit. It looks like a small mango on the outside, a deep yellow, aromatic yellow fruit. It gets its name because when it is ripe it looks and tastes a little bit like an egg yolk. Yet to be fair it is amazingly good.

The Thai people are truly good people. They are a peaceful and calm people, always approaching me with love and respect. As a phD student I have an elevated respectful status and they show me deep respect that I have honestly never experienced before. I live in an apartment inside the university. Mahidol University is a Thai royal university which means that everything is amazingly well maintained and spotless. A little army of workers clean, guard, and take care of the university grounds. It feels that I live inside royal garders.

In the mornings I walk in the glorious nature of the grounds. I see an amazing flaura and fauna. The birds are so amazingly different that I am in awe. There is also an abundance of monitor lizards, and it is my morning joy to spot them and chase them. From head to tail they can get as large as 5-7 meters, although they come in all shapes, the young ones being as small as 70cm in length. In the mornings I would meet sometimes 3-10 of them, depending on what area of the university I am walking in. I also love swimming.

At Mahidol Sports center they have 4 swimming pools (2 olympic sized) and it is my joy to go for a swim often. Especially in those very hot Thai days. In general I am very happy I chose Mahidol University. It is ranked 1st or 2nd in Thailand depending on the year and it is certainly one of the best universities in Asia. My life is easy here and I feel that I live in paradise.

For my previous degrees I was at MIT and the Sloan School of Management in Boston. Certainly some of the best schools in the world, yet cold and often gray in the surroundings. I did finish 3 degrees there (mechanical engineering, product development and management). I remember though saying that if I go back to school I would choose a heavenly university and this is what I have chosen indeed.

• Do you miss Greece ?

It is a difficult question to answer whether I miss Greece or not. Thailand is so very different. My mother is mostly in Greece so I go there in the breaks and summers. In fact she sometimes comes to stay with me during the winter months. I take care of her, and she certainly also takes care of me. It is difficult to answer because things are so different, yet they are equally lovely.

Thankfully I have a great mastery of the English language so I can easily adapt to a new location. Unfortunately I do not speak Thai. I did try taking classes. It is a phonetic language though and it is particularly difficult for me. Maybe this is the only real difficulty I face. I miss being able to be understood and being able to understand what I am being told, or who the Thai people really are. I wish I could know more Thai people. I have friends who speak English only, and I love my Thai friends.
