These are Mongolia’s millennial monks. Today, they are in charge of more and more of the country’s monasteries. This new generation of monks are coming of age after decades of Soviet religious persecution.

As part of our Trans Siberian train trip from London to Beijing, Mongolia was our 4th stop. We experienced a bit of nomadic culture and enjoyed a nights stay in a Ger in the beautiful Terelj National park, one of the biggest forest areas near Ulan bator and an hours drive from the centre.

Incredible Gobi Desert Tour, Mongolia

The Gobi Desert, spanning southern Mongolia and northern China, is a destination with a harsh climate and an array of vast landscapes. It’s home to incredible sand dunes, rock canyons, valleys, dinosaur fossils and, of course, camels. It’s a fascinating region and one of Mongolia’s top travel destinations!

Almost every tour company offers an opportunity for travelers to experience the Gobi Desert during their visit to Mongolia, but we found that the best way to see this region was to explore it at out own pace… Featuring footage from: Baga Gazriin Chuluu, Tsagaan Suvraga (White Stupas), Yoliin Am (Ice Field), Khongoryn Els (sand dunes), and Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs.

JOURNEY into MONGOLIA

I went on a solo adventure into western Mongolia with Indy Guide to explore what this amazing part of the country had to offer and visit the eagle hunters of the region, I was not disappointed. The views were on another level, especially in the Altai mountains but the Kazahk people were just extremely welcoming and open which made the experience one to remember.

Staying with a different family each night, experiencing their daily routines and eating and drinking with them. We continued to make our way around the west, attending the Nauryz eagle festival and exploring some of the snowy mountains in the Altai by horseback.

Filming my adventure through Mongolia was extremely tough, we were on the move constantly and electricity is hard to come by so I relied on power banks a lot to charge my camera, being from Africa i’m not used to temperatures as low as -20 degrees celsius during this time of the year and of course the language barrier but I thoroughly enjoyed the every moment and it was one of the most raw feelings of travel I have experienced.

Εκεί που νομίζει κανείς ότι με τον Σάκη Τανιμανίδη και τον Γιώργο Μαυρίδη τα έχει δει όλα, οι δύο λάτρεις της αδρεναλίνης προσγειώνονται στη χώρα του Τζένγκις Χαν και η περιπέτεια πάλι ξεκινά!
Εξορμούν στη μακρινή Μογγολία. Αρχικός προορισμός, η πρωτεύουσά της, η Ουλαν Μπατόρ, όπου σχεδιάζουν την πρώτη τους αποστολή: να γίνουν για μια μέρα ανθρακωρύχοι,
“Ninja Miners” όπως τους αποκαλούν οι ντόπιοι και να βρεθούν αρκετά μέτρα κάτω από τη γη!

Προσοχή, αυτά τα πράγματα δεν είναι για τους κλειστοφοβικούς! Από εκεί, έξι άτομα ταξιδεύουν στριμωγμένα σε ένα τζιπάκι για πέντε, επί 20 ώρες (!), για να βρουν τη νομαδική φυλή των Tsaatan ή αλλιώς τους «ανθρώπους των ταράνδων» και να ζήσουν μαζί τους μια από τις μεγαλύτερες περιπέτειες της ζωής τους!

Οι αντοχές του Σάκη και του Γιώργου δοκιμάζονται, αφού πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσουν το κρύο στους -15 βαθμούς °C, να κοιμηθούν σε πρωτόγονες σκηνές με άχυρα, να κόψουν ξύλα και… να ξεπεράσουν το σοκ της γνωριμίας τους με τον μεγάλο σαμάνο της φυλής των Tsaatan!

A Journey Through Mongolia (Full Length Documentary)

Mongolia! A Journey through Mongolia is a travel documentary from our one month trip through the great expanses of the Mongolian plains.

We started the trip with a few days in Ulaanbaatar to experience the sprawling metropolis. We also had a chance to go to Hustai National Park not far from UB to see the last remaining wild horse, the Takhi. Then we went on a ten day adventure to go live with the Tsaatan Reindeer Herder tribe in the very north on the border of Siberia. This was an incredible experience and it was very demanding with multiple days on horseback after a long strenuous multi-day 4WD trip. After a short recovery we went to the eastern part of the country to the Bayan-Ölgii Province to attend the Golden Eagle Festival. This festival has really been the focus of the Mongolian travel in recent time, very much because of Aishol-pan the “Eagle Huntress”. We had a chance to meet this incredible girl who is certainly an inspiration to women across the world. After the festival we went and lived with an eagle hunter family deep in the Altai Mountain Range.
