Από τις μεγαλύτερες σε πληθυσμό πόλεις του πλανήτη αποτελεί και θαλάσσιο κόμβο της ανατολικής Ασίας η Σαγκάη σήμερα είναι μια πόλη σύγχρονη με εξαιρετικά ψηλά κτίρια που χτίζονται και ένα από τα σημαντικότερα πολιτιστικά, οικονομικά, εμπορικά και βιομηχανικά κέντρα της χώρας. Βρίσκεται στις εκβολές του ποταμού Yangtze κατατάσσεται στους είκοσι κορυφαίους προορισμούς της Κίνας. Η Σαγκάη είναι ένα συναρπαστικό μείγμα Ανατολής και Δύσης.
Η Σαγκάη που κάποτε μέχρι το 1842 ήταν ένα ψαροχώρι σήμερα είναι τόσο μεγάλη και χρειάζεται αρκετές ημέρες για να καλύψουν οι επισκέπτες όλα τα ενδιαφέροντα αξιοθέατα της πόλης.
Ως μια διάσημη ιστορική και πολιτιστική πόλη, η Σαγκάη έχει επισημανθεί σαν το κομβικό σημείο των ποταμών και των ωκεανών, η πρωτεύουσα της νοτιοανατολικής Κίνας.
The Bund

The Bund or Waitan is a waterfront area in central Shanghai. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road, as well as some adjacent areas. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai. Building heights are restricted in the area.

Shanghai’s Paradise! The Yu Garden
Today we see what’s going on 12 hours ahead in one of Shanghai’s most serene spots, the Yu Garden.

Jade Buddha Temple, M50 Art District, and Lujiazui | Shanghai, China
On our first day in Shanghai, we went to the amazingly cool Jade Buddha Temple, walked around a cool park and explored the art galleries at M50. After dinner, we went to the Central Business District (Lujiazui) to see downtown and the Bund.
0:29 – The Jade Buddha Temple is a large and very popular complex. We spent about 3 hours here exploring all the little rooms and sanctuaries. (Part of that time was spent just sitting, waiting for the large groups to move through so we could have the place to ourselves.) This is a definite must-see for Shanghai.
1:56 – Mengqing Park is a brand new park built on land that was a factory that made the surrounding Suzhou River the most polluted river in Shanghai. The Park was designed to rehabilitate and cleanse the area.
2:30 – On the way to M50, artists have tagged and graffitied all the walls and it’s quite the sight. M50 stands for 50 Moganshan Lu, the actual address of the now defunct factory that housed over 120 art galleries and studio spaces. If you like art, this place is incredible! One of the coolest collections of art on the planet.
4:34 – Lujiazui is the central business district for Shanghai, where you find all the skyscrapers. Unlike other business districts (like New York) that virtually die at night because everyone works 9-5, Lujiazui was designed to include shopping and restaurants to attract people at night as well. It’s fun. Looking out across the water from Lujiazui (sometimes called Pudong, which is the much larger area – like calling the Financial District in New York “Manhattan”), you can see the Bund, which you’ll see lots more of later in the week, so make sure you’re subscribed!

Longhua Temple, dedicated to Maitreya Buddha, Shanghai, China
Longhua Temple is a Buddhist Temple located west of Pudong in Shanghai, China. The name of the temple literally means “Lustre of the Dragon Temple.” The temple was originally constructed during the Three Kingdoms Period in 242 AD, though most of the buildings seen today are reconstructions. What makes Longhua Temple so special is that it still preserve its architectural design, based off a Song dynasty (960–1279) monastery. Standing next to the temple entrance is Longhua Pagoda, an important and historic octagonal pagoda in the city of Shanghai. The brick base and body of the seven-storey pagoda as seen today was built in 977 though parts of it have been renovation over the years as the wood is extremely fragile.
