LOCAL TRAIN STATION & MARKET IN BANGKOK | Wongwian Yai Station

Wongwian Yai Station is a local train station & market I found while on one of my expeditions. What makes this local train station so special is the small markets in and around the station. It seemed as though the vendors were packing when I was there so I can imagine how busy it would have been earlier.

This station has the essence of an old historical Thai train station in Bangkok, Thailand. It’s as picturesque as Hua Lamphong Station, the main train depot in Bangkok, Thailand. I’m not quite sure where this station goes, but even if you don’t catch the train here. It’s well worth the visit.

HOW TO GET HERE: The BTS SILOM LINE and get off at WONGWIAN YAI BTS STATION. Walk along THANON KRUNG THON BURI (away from the Chao Phraya River). CROSS THE ROAD, when you reach the big intersection and TURN RIGHT at SOMDET PHRA CHAO TAK SIN RD. Walk all the way down until you see RIM THANG ROTFAI or the big sight on your left that says WONG WIAN YAI STATION. You won’t miss.

Το Βατ Αρούν είναι διακοσμημένο από πορσελάνη και μωσαϊκά.

A STEP BACK IN TIME | Historic Trains At Bangkok’s Thonburi Train Station, Bangkok, Thailand

I felt like I took a step back in time when I found these historic trains at Bangkok’s Thonburi train station.

Believe it or not, these old historic looking trains sitting at Thonburi train station are still in operation. I’m not quite sure how much they are being used these days. But on this particular day, they were sitting at the depot, being cleaned out.

It was a great experience to have been able to get up close to these trains. Even though I was not allowed to board these trains. From the outside, it looked quite amazing and surreal.

BEYOND THE TOURISTY AREAS OF BANGKOK | Talat Phlu, Thon Buri, Bangkok, Thailand

This is what it looks like beyond the touristy areas of Bangkok. This quiet Thai neighborhood is in the local area of Talat Phlu, Thon Buri in Bangkok, Thailand. I didn’t know what I would find down this local Thai street, but it looked quite interesting. So I decided to take a walk down. Within minutes, I already knew I made a great choice. There’s were olden style Thai homes, modified motorbikes to transport goods and even a local fire station hidden at the very end of the street. Which was unexpected. But beyond the street is where it got really interesting.

I continued walking and it turned into a quiet residential area. It was very interesting to have experience that, to say the very least. Locals were around doing their daily routines, like watering the plants, washing the dishes and even playing in a small blow up pool. It was quite surreal witnessing how some people in this world lives. It gives you a different perspective on life.

THA DIN DAENG MARKET | Local Thai Market, Bangkok, Thailand

Tha Din Daeng Market is a local Thai market in Bangkok, Thailand. It is located on the other side of the Chao Phraya River, right next to Tha Din Daeng Night Market and the Din Daeng Cross River Ferry Pier. This market is literally set up on an empty block of land.

It seems big and confusing at first glance, but once you walk around. You begin to get a sense of the surroundings and the layout. Which is not that big after all, but still a decent size. You won’t find many tourists at this market at all.

The prices here are reasonable, although I did expect it to be a bit cheaper. Considering that only locals come here. You can find anything from, raw meat, cooked meat, food, fruits, vegetables, clothes, basic household needs and even a giant jumping castle for the kids.

If you would like to. get away from all the touristy markets and get a feel for the local markets, then head over to Tha Din Daeng Market.

DIRECTIONS: Take the ferry to DIN DAENG CROSS RIVER FERRY PIER and walk straight down along THA DIN DAENG RD. You will see the market on your right-hand side. OPENING HOURS I believe this market starts around 3:00PM. I’m not sure till what time though.
