Kinabatangan River in Borneo 4K

The Kinabatangan River is a river in Sabah, Malaysia. It is the second longest river in Malaysia, with a length of 560 km (350 mi) from its headwaters in the mountains of southwest Sabah, to its outlet at the Sulu Sea, east of Sandakan. Kinabatangan is known for its remarkable wildlife and fascinating habitats such as limestone caves at Gomantong hill, dryland dipterocarp forests, riverine forest, freshwater swamp forest, oxbow lakes and salty mangrove swamps near the coast. The Kapuas River is a river in the Indonesian part of Borneo island, at the geographic center of Maritime Southeast Asia. At 1,143 kilometers (710 mi) in length, it is the longest river of Indonesia and one of the world’s longest island rivers.

It originates in the Müller mountain range at the center of the island and flows west into the South China Sea creating an extended marshy delta. The delta is located west-southwest of Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan province. This Kapuas River should be distinguished from another Kapuas River, which starts on the other side of the same mountain range in central Borneo, but flows to the south, merging with the Barito River and discharging into the Java Sea.

The Mahakam River is a river in Kalimantan, Indonesia. It flows 980 km from the district of Long Apari in the highlands of Borneo, to its mouth at the Makassar Strait. The city of Samarinda, the provincial capital of East Kalimantan, lies along the river 48 km (30 mi) from the river mouth. The delta Mahakam river consist of specific micro climate which is influenced by high and low tide at sea level.

Travel Malaysia: Long Selatong, A Borneo Longhouse Experience

In the deep forests of Borneo, we traveled to Sarawak as Nasri pays a visit to his long house in Long Selatong. It was about 25 years since he went back to this place where he once grew up. His father and fellow relatives who are Kenyah natives took us around to explore what it’s like to be living in the deep jungle.

The people of the longhouse has made this trip such a heartwarming one. The history of what this place used to be memories of clean water flowing down the Baram river and the sight of hundreds of butterflies which signifies the health of the eco system. Today, the life here suffers from severe uncontrolled logging and timber work.

Protecting the Sun Bears of Borneo | National Geographic
